I am an education journalist, and public editor of The Education Writers Association. Prior to joining EWA I covered education at the Las Vegas Sun, and was named Outstanding Journalist of the Year by the Nevada State Press Association. I spent the 2022-23 academic year as a Spencer Education Fellow at Columbia University, researching and reporting on the Department of Defense's K-12 schools. I was also fortunate to be a 2011 Knight-Wallace Fellow at the University of Michigan. I earned my MFA in narrative nonfiction from Goucher College in 2022. I hold a master’s degree in journalism from Stanford University, and aa bachelor’s degree with departmental honors in English from Wellesley College.
